Are you up to the challenge of empathetically responding to customer concerns, or doing an on-camera media interview about traffic safety or insurance-related topics? Can you juggle multiple assignments and handle a bit of chaos?

SGI’s Communications Department is looking for a Communications Consultant to join our Media Team in Regina. We need someone who has professional communications experience in social media and media relations. (Sorry, having a personal Facebook account isn’t enough.) 

You’ll lead SGI’s social media strategy, and be responsible for analysis and measurement. You’ll work with colleagues to deliver social media content with a strong focus on traffic safety and terrific customer experiences. 

You’ll write eye-catching news releases with memorable messaging and you will plan media announcements to deliver them. As back-up to the Media Relations Manager, you’ll respond to media inquiries and work with people across our company to help reporters get the information they need. Yes, you’ll have to do interviews sometimes.

Key Accountabilities 
External and Media Relations 
In this role, you will develop, implement, manage and evaluate the corporation’s Social Media Program, ensuring social media messaging is consistent with media key messages. You’ll write a variety of materials for a variety of audiences ensuring all your work meets corporate and industry standards (includes standard corporate communications and social media platforms). 

You’ll work with management, and colleagues in government departments and agencies, and/or other stakeholder groups, ensuring communication is coordinated with consistent and timely messages. You’ll also act as corporate spokesperson in the corporate spokesperson’s absence and assist the senior management with issues management and crisis communications tactics. 

Candidate Requirements 
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities 
  • Knowledge of developing media/public relations and/or social media strategies. 
  • Knowledge of corporate communications policies and procedures. 
  • Knowledge of SGI’s vision, values and strategic imperatives and corporate direction. 
  • Knowledge of the insurance industry. 
  • Knowledge of media in Saskatchewan and across Canada. 
  • Skill in planning, organizing and project management. 
  • Ability to provide communications planning and support for confidential corporate strategies and initiatives. 
  • Ability to communicate to influence and persuade, adapting to specific audiences (both written and verbal). 
  • Ability to communicate with clarity and simplicity, boiling down complex concepts into simple language that is easy to understand (both written and verbal). 

Education & Experience (Applicants must hold, and provide verification to Human Resources of, education credentials by 5:00 p.m. date of close, Saskatchewan time). 
  • A bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, English or a related discipline. 
  • Three years experience in communications. 
  • An alternative combination of relevant education and experience may also be considered.
