Description:

The Ministry of Trade and Export Development* is looking for an experienced, highly motivated and skilled communicator to join our Communications team as a Communications Consultant.


In this position, you will provide strategic communications advice to senior ministry officials, develop and implement communications/issues management strategies that build support for and awareness of the ministry's policies, programs and services and lead a range of communications initiatives. The position also contributes to internal communications work, and supports ministry colleagues in fostering great culture.
The successful candidate will have the ability to develop, implement and evaluate communications strategies and plans that support the ministry's strategic goals; verbally and in writing communicate information to a variety of audiences to build support, educate and promote understanding of the ministry and its programs and services; research, write and edit a variety of communications materials, including communications strategies, news releases, speeches and publications; organize and prioritize a high volume of projects with competing deadlines to consistently produce high quality work; and develop and maintain positive relationships with ministry staff, clients and stakeholders.

Typically, the knowledge and abilities required for this position would have been gained through a post-secondary education in communications or public relations. A combination of education in a comparable field and experience may also be considered. Professional accreditation or certification (IABC, CPRS) is an asset. Skills and experience related to graphic design/desktop publishing will also be considered an asset. A demonstrated knowledge of government practices and protocol, and knowledge of the ministries' program areas will also be considered an asset.

*Note – in February 2018 the Ministry of the Economy was restructured into three ministries: Ministry of Trade and Export Development; Ministry of Immigration and Career Training; and, Ministry of Energy and Resources. The Communications Branch in the Ministry of Trade and Export Development provides shared communications services to all three ministries.
