Membership Types

Most IABC member in our chapter are have a Regular Membership, but they are several types of memberships available.

Members can choose from: 

  • Regular Membership
  • Corporate Membership
  • Student Membership
  • Student Transition Membership 
  • Retiree Membership

Corporate Membership Package

Corporate membership packages are available for organizations with five or more members. Corporate packages offer the convenience of one renewal date, as well as reduced membership and World Conference rates. There are different corporate package levels that vary by the number of employee members at one organization. Each package offers different discount levels and benefits:

    Platinum (75+ members) offers a flat rate of US$260 each
    Gold (31-74 members) offers a flat rate of US$275 each
    Silver (16-30 members) offers a flat rate of US$290 each
    Bronze (5-15 members) offers a flat rate of US$300 each

Student Membership

Student memberships are available to full-time students of colleges, universities and other educational institutions, as well as part-time students working toward a degree, or a certificate program in Canada, who are not presently working in the communication profession.

IABC defines student members as "full-time students of colleges, universities and other educational institutions.” This membership is also available to part-time students working toward a degree, who are not presently engaged in the organizational communication profession in a paid capacity.
Applications for student membership must be received at least 60 days prior to graduation date.

To apply for student membership, students must submit when joining or renewing:

1. A student ID (fax or photocopy)

AND

2. One of the following:
• Copy/Fax of a recent transcript with name of the institution, name of the student, and a date including the year
• Copy/Fax of a class schedule provided by the Registrar with name of the institution, name of the student, and a date including the year
• Copy/Fax of a receipt for tuition payment with name of the institution, name of the student, and a date including the year

Upon graduation, IABC student members qualify for 40% off the international membership dues and exemption from the application fee if they join IABC as a Transitional member within one year of their graduation date. Full chapter and regional dues still apply.

Print out and fill in the online application form.
Mail or fax application to the IABC Membership Department along with two of the required documents that prove your student status, and your expected year of graduation, as well as the appropriate dues payment.

Once received, your membership application will take up to five business days to process. You will then receive a confirmation e-mail providing you with your membership information and access to the international website.

Student transition

Professionals who have graduated from a degree program from an accredited institution in the last year are eligible for the student transition rate. For student transition members, the regular application fee is waived, and the student pays half of the international dues plus full region and chapter dues. Members can only have one year as a student transition; they must then become professional members at the full professional rate.

Applicants will need to fax proof of degree conferral after enrolling with the Member Relations, which can be one of the following:
  • Dated letter from Registrar on letterhead of an accredited institution stating date of graduation and degree conferred.
  • Photocopy of diploma from accredited institution stating degree and date conferred.
  • Photocopy of transcript from accredited institution stating graduation date and degree conferred.
